Paraoa
The great sperm whale, Paraoa, is often
depicted on the maihi (face boards) of pataka (food stores), as they
provided a bountiful supply of food and the bones used as weapons while
the teeth are prized as neck ornaments. There is an old proverb, which
says
Ana ta te uaua Paraoa
There is strength or resolution in the Sperm Whale.
